Lime Crime creator and CEO Doe Deere is one of several female entrepreneurs who are managing multi-million dollar companies. Although she achieved success, it was not without obstacles.
The Russian born self-appointed “Unicorn Queen” is an artist who exploded onto the scene just a few short years ago with a make line made especially for those who dare to dream.
Doe sat down with Galore Magazine’s Stephanie Janetos to explain her vision and how it transformed into one of the quirkiest and most talked about line in the world. Doe says her imagination as a child played a huge role in shaping her line. She says she can’t remember a time when she didn’t have a paint brush or pencil in her hand. “I loved to put on makeup and try on my mother’s clothing like any other girl,” said Doe. But it didn’t stop there. Doe says there was much, much more to her vision.
There was a great deal of trial and error, according to Doe. Once she tweaked her makeup to her specifications, the response was phenomenal. That’s when she know it was time to launch Lime Crime. The name, Doe says, derived from the love of her favorite color – Lime. She threw in the Crime because it rhymed, said Doe.
Her line features a smorgasborg of bright colors, glitter and glam. Lipstick, nail polish, eye shadow, eyeliner are all bright and bold — just the way Doe likes it.
Doe’s internet-based business took off like a house on fire. In the first year, she had more orders than she could handle. “It was all pretty surreal,” said Doe. “I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would get this big.”
In 2010, she won the Top Female Entrepreneur Award from Self Made Magazine. Doe loves posting pictures on Instagram and reading the feedback, which is mostly positive. “I love reading the feedback. Most of the readers love how I coordinate my makeup with wigs, clothing and accessories.”
Doe says she loves being a role model and inspiration to other ladies looking to start their own business.
Doe was born in Russia but grew up in New York. She has dabbled in many things but found her calling in fashion and makeup. She is one of the most well-known female entrepreneurs in the U.S., and looked upon as an inspiration to others.
